On the way from Manali towards Rohtang, the road slowly leaves the busy town behind and reaches Kothi Village. Sitting around 13–14 km from Manali, Kothi is known for its dramatic mountain scenery, the deep Beas gorge and wide views towards the higher Himalayas.
It feels less like a sightseeing stop and more like a place where you simply pull over, look around and enjoy the mountains.

Why Visit Kothi?
A few things make Kothi special:
- The Beas River cuts through a deep, narrow gorge below the village.
- On clear days, you can see snow-covered peaks and high mountain slopes.
- Kothi is a good starting area for nature walks and longer hikes towards places such as Beas Kund, Bhrigu Lake and Patalsu Peak.
- The village is much quieter than central Manali, especially once the day-trip traffic moves on.
If you like landscapes more than crowded attractions, this is one of the places around Manali I would keep on the list.
Places Nearby
Kothi is part of a beautiful stretch of the Manali–Rohtang road, so you can easily combine it with:
- Nehru Kund – a quick stop for its natural spring and mountain views.
- Palchan – a small village surrounded by forests and mountains.
- Solang Valley – open valley scenery and adventure activities.
- Gulaba – especially beautiful when the higher slopes are covered in snow.
- Rahala Waterfall – a scenic waterfall farther up the Rohtang route.
- Anjani Mahadev – a popular short hike from the Solang side.
- Rohtang Pass – when the road and seasonal access conditions allow.

Cafés & Food
Kothi is not the place to come for a huge café scene, and honestly, that’s part of its charm.
Cafe Zeppelinn is a well-known stop in Kothi, with pizzas, pasta, sandwiches and momos — a handy place for a meal or coffee while travelling towards Rohtang.
There is also Sagu Valley Hotel & Cafe, located directly in Kothi village, if you want something closer to the village itself.
For a more local experience, stop for chai, Maggi or momos at a small roadside place and enjoy the view instead of looking for a fancy restaurant.

Where to Stay
You can stay in Kothi itself, although the choice is much smaller than in Manali.
- Kothi Hotel & Homestay – a simple option right in the village.
- Sagu Valley Hotel & Cafe – stay and food option on the Leh–Manali Highway.
- There are also stays around Palchan and Solang Valley.
- If you want more choice, staying in Manali and visiting Kothi as a half-day trip is the easiest option.
Best Chill Points
Kothi is made for slowing down.
- Find a safe viewpoint and watch the Beas River far below.
- Sit at a café with the mountains in front of you.
- Walk around the quieter village lanes.
- Stop along the road for photographs of the valley.
- Come in the afternoon and wait for the mountain light to change.
Just be careful near steep edges and the gorge — the views are beautiful, but this is real mountain terrain.

Weather & Best Time to Visit
Kothi sits at roughly 2,500 metres, so it is generally cooler than the plains and can feel noticeably colder than lower Manali.
- March–June: Pleasant during the day, with snow still visible on higher mountains.
- July–August: Green and fresh, but rain can make mountain roads and trails slippery.
- September–November: Cool, clear and excellent for mountain photography.
- December–February: Very cold, with snow and winter road conditions possible.
Even in summer, mornings and evenings can be cold, so keep a jacket with you.
Crowd & Off-Season
Kothi itself is usually much calmer than Manali, but the Manali–Solang–Rohtang road becomes busy during May–June, weekends and holiday periods.
For a quieter visit, try September–November or go early in the morning.
Winter can be especially peaceful, but always check road and weather conditions before heading towards the higher areas.
If You Have 2–4 Hours
A simple Kothi outing could look like this:
Manali → Nehru Kund → Palchan → Kothi Village → coffee/tea → valley views → return towards Manali.
If road and weather conditions are good and you have more time, continue towards Solang Valley or Gulaba.
Don’t rush through Kothi. Pull over somewhere safe, switch off the car for a few minutes and just listen to the mountains.
