Around 13–14 km from Manali, Solang Valley is where the scenery gets wider, the mountains feel closer and the day usually becomes a little more exciting. In summer, it is known for adventure activities like paragliding, while winter brings snow and skiing.
But you don’t have to do an adventure activity to enjoy Solang. Sometimes just sitting in the valley with the mountains around you is enough.

Why Visit Solang Valley?
A few things make Solang worth the drive:
- Paragliding is one of the biggest attractions in the warmer months.
- Winter changes the valley completely, with snow activities and skiing.
- The views towards Patalsu and the surrounding Himalayan peaks are beautiful on a clear day.
- It is also a gateway for trips further towards Atal Tunnel and Lahaul.
If you’re visiting for the first time, don’t spend the entire day running from one activity to another. Keep some time just for the valley.
Places Nearby
Solang works nicely as part of an upper-Manali road trip:
- Nehru Kund – a quick stop for the natural spring and mountain views.
- Palchan – a quieter village surrounded by mountains.
- Kothi Village – dramatic views of the Beas gorge.
- Gulaba – beautiful higher-mountain scenery when accessible.
- Anjani Mahadev – a short hike and a popular winter spot.
- Atal Tunnel & Sissu – continue further if road and weather conditions allow.

Cafés & Food
Solang has enough small cafés and restaurants for a quick meal, chai or Maggi, but don’t expect the café-hopping scene of Old Manali.
Cafe Chalte Chalte, Ride Inn Cafe and The Avalon Cafe are among the current dining options listed around the Solang area.
If you’re looking for a bigger café selection, I’d save that for Old Manali on the way back. A hot chai in Solang after spending time outside, though, is hard to beat.

Where to Stay
Staying in Solang is a good idea if you want quiet mornings and don’t mind being away from central Manali.
- Solang Ski Resort – right in the Solang area.
- Solang Heights Hotel & Cafe – convenient for the valley.
- Hotel Iceland Solang – another nearby option.
- Solang Valley Resort – a more comfortable resort-style stay.
Current hotel listings show several properties within or very close to the valley.
If you prefer more restaurants, shopping and nightlife, stay in Manali and make Solang a day trip.
Best Chill Points
Solang isn’t only about adventure.
- Sit on the open meadow and look towards the mountains.
- Find a café terrace for tea and photography.
- Walk around the quieter edges of the valley.
- Take photographs when the clouds start moving over the peaks.
- Stay until late afternoon if you want beautiful mountain light.

Weather & Best Time to Visit
Solang changes dramatically with the seasons.
- March–June: Pleasant days and comfortable for sightseeing and outdoor activities.
- July–August: Green and fresh, but monsoon rain can affect road and outdoor plans.
- September–November: Cool, clearer and excellent for mountain views.
- December–February: Cold and snowy, with winter activities becoming the main attraction.
Even in summer, mornings and evenings can feel cold, so carry a jacket.
If your main goal is adventure, summer is lively. If you want snow, winter is the obvious choice.
Crowd & Off-Season
Solang gets busiest during May–June, weekends and school holidays. Winter weekends and the Christmas–New Year period can also be very busy when snow conditions are good.
For fewer people, try September–November on weekdays.
One local trick: start early. You’ll get better light, less traffic on the road and a much calmer Solang before the day-trip crowds arrive.
If You Have 2–4 Hours
A simple plan works perfectly:
Manali → Nehru Kund → Palchan → Solang Valley → walk around the meadow → activity/ropeway if you want → chai → return towards Manali.
If you have a full day and road conditions permit, continue towards Atal Tunnel and Sissu.

Solang is at its best when you stop for a moment, look up at the mountains and let the valley do the entertaining.
