Why Visit Kufri?
- Mahasu Peak is the main attraction and one of the highest points around Shimla.

- It feels quite different from central Shimla — more open, greener and quieter when the tourist rush is low.
One local tip: don’t judge Kufri only by the crowded tourist area. The forest roads and viewpoints around Kufri are where you’ll find the nicer side of it.

If you’re driving towards New Kufri, Himalayan Treat Kufri and GALLU CAFE are other options for coffee and snacks.
For a proper Himachali meal, look for siddu, rajma-chawal, parathas and hot chai rather than only fast food.

Weather & Best Time to Visit
Kufri is cooler than Shimla because of its higher elevation.
- March–June: Pleasant during the day and good for sightseeing and walks.
- July–September: Green and misty, but monsoon rain can make roads and trails slippery.
- October–November: Crisp, cool weather and generally better visibility.

Even in summer, mornings and evenings can be quite cold, so carry a light jacket.
Crowd & Off-Season
Kufri gets especially busy during summer holidays, weekends and the winter snow season. Snowfall days can bring a big rush from Shimla.
For a quieter visit, try October–November on a weekday. Early mornings are also much nicer than arriving around midday.
If your main goal is snow, winter is the obvious choice — just check current road and weather conditions before travelling.
If You Have 2–4 Hours
If you’re coming from Shimla, a simple plan works well:
Shimla → Green Valley → Kufri → Mahasu Peak area → chai/lunch → Fagu → back to Shimla.
If you don’t want to rush, skip some of the commercial activities and spend more time walking, taking photographs and enjoying the forest views.
