Raghupur Fort is one of those places where the ruins are not really the main attraction — the views are. Starting from Jalori Pass, the trail takes you through forest and open mountain meadows before reaching the old stone remains of the fort.
The walk is roughly 2–3 km one way, depending on the route, and the real reward is the wide Himalayan panorama from the top. (Jalori Pass)

Why Visit Raghupur Fort?
- The trail passes through deodar and oak forest before opening into beautiful high-altitude meadows.
- The old fort ruins are simple, but the 360° mountain views make the trek special. (Jibhi Valley)
- On a clear day, you can see across the surrounding Banjar/Sainj side and Himalayan ranges.
- It is a good choice if you want a short mountain trek without spending an entire day on the trail.
Don’t expect a huge restored fort. What you get here is more raw — old stone ruins, grassland and mountains all around.
Places Nearby
Raghupur Fort is best visited as part of a Jalori–Shoja–Jibhi trip.
- Jalori Pass – the starting point of the trek.
- Serolsar Lake – another popular forest trek from Jalori Pass.
- Jalori Mata Temple – a small temple right near the pass.
- Shoja – peaceful village surrounded by deodar forests.
- Jibhi – cafés, homestays and Jibhi Waterfall.
- Chehni Kothi – an interesting traditional Himachali tower-style structure.

Cafés & Food
There isn’t much of a café scene at the fort itself. You’ll find small tea and food stalls around Jalori Pass, which are perfect for chai, Maggi or a simple meal after the trek.
For better cafés, head back towards Shoja or Jibhi. Shoja has small cafés and stays where you can sit with a hot cup of chai and mountain views. (Jibhi Valley)
Honestly, chai at Jalori Pass after the trek is part of the experience.

Where to Stay
If Raghupur Fort is on your itinerary, Shoja is the most convenient base because it is close to Jalori Pass.
- Moustache Shoja – a popular option for backpackers.
- Ailyak Cafe & Stay – a peaceful stay beside the forest and stream.
- Firgun – a café and stay with Himalayan views.
- Zostel Jibhi – a good option if you prefer staying in Jibhi and exploring the area from there. (Jibhi Valley)
For a quieter trip, I’d pick Shoja over staying in a busy tourist centre.
Best Chill Points
The fort itself is the obvious spot, but don’t rush there and back.
- Sit in the open meadow near the ruins.
- Stop along the forest trail whenever you find a good view.
- Take your time at the top and look across the mountains.
- Have chai at Jalori Pass after coming down.
- Spend the evening in Shoja surrounded by deodar trees.

The top can be windy, so carry a jacket even when the weather feels warm at lower elevations.
Weather & Best Time to Visit
Raghupur Fort sits at high altitude, so the weather can change quickly.
- March–April: Cool, with spring greenery and some snow possible.
- May–June: Pleasant trekking weather and clearer trails.
- July–August: Green and beautiful, but rain can make the trail slippery.
- September–November: Cool, clearer skies and excellent mountain views.
- December–February: Snowy and very cold; Jalori Pass access can be restricted. (Jalori Pass)
Even in summer, mornings and evenings are cold at Jalori.
Crowd & Off-Season
The trek can get busy during May–June, weekends and long holidays, especially when the weather is clear.
If you want a quieter experience, go early in the morning on a weekday, particularly in September or October.
Winter can be beautiful, but don’t assume the trek will always be accessible — snow can close Jalori Pass. Check local road and weather conditions before going. (Jibhi Valley)
If You Have 2–4 Hours
If you’re already at Jalori Pass, you can make a quick outing:
Jalori Pass → Raghupur Fort trail → forest walk → open meadow → fort ruins → mountain views → return to Jalori Pass for chai.
For a relaxed visit, I’d keep around 4–5 hours rather than rushing the trek. Recent visitors also recommend allowing several hours for the whole experience. (Tripadvisor)
If you have a full day, combine it with Serolsar Lake or return towards Shoja and Jibhi.

Raghupur Fort may have only a few old stones left, but the mountains around it make the whole trek worth remembering.
