Right near Mall Road, Van Vihar is one of those places in Manali that is easy to miss if you’re busy ticking off the big tourist spots. It is a green riverside park where you can take a slow walk, sit under the trees and enjoy the sound of the Beas River.
I like it especially when you need a break from the traffic and crowds of central Manali.

Why Visit Van Vihar?
- The park is surrounded by tall deodar trees, giving it a cool, forest-like feel.
- The Beas River runs alongside the area, making it a nice place to sit and relax.
- It is close to Mall Road, so you don’t need to spend much time travelling there.
- It’s better for a relaxed walk and some quiet time than for a full-day sightseeing plan.
Don’t expect a huge attraction here. The charm is in keeping things simple.

Cafés & Food
Van Vihar itself isn’t really a café-hopping destination, but you’re very close to plenty of food options.
After your walk, head towards Mall Road for chai, momos, Tibetan food and quick snacks. If you want a proper café break, continue towards Old Manali, where you’ll find popular places like Dylan’s Toasted & Roasted Coffee House and Cafe 1947.
If you’re in the mood for local food, try siddu, thukpa, momos or a simple Himachali meal rather than only sticking to café food.

Van Vihar is surrounded by plenty of accommodation because it’s close to central Manali.
- Hotel New Adarsh – right around the Mall Road area.
- Hotel Snow View – convenient if you want to stay near the market.
- Baikunth Manali – around Club House Road.
- Hotel Chetna – towards the Old Manali/Log Huts side.
There are also plenty of smaller budget hotels and homestays nearby.

Weather & Best Time to Visit
Van Vihar changes with the seasons.
- March–June: Pleasant, green and comfortable for walking.
- July–August: Fresh and lush after the rain, but expect wet weather.
- September–November: Cool, crisp and especially nice for peaceful walks.
- December–February: Cold, with winter weather and possible snowfall around Manali.
Even during summer, early mornings and evenings can feel quite cold, so a light jacket is useful.
Crowd & Off-Season
Manali gets busiest during May–June, school holidays and the Christmas–New Year period. The town can become particularly crowded during peak holiday weekends.
For a quieter visit, try September–November or come on a weekday.
Early morning is probably the best time if your main reason for visiting is peace and photography.
If You Have 2–4 Hours
You don’t need a complicated plan:
Van Vihar → slow riverside walk → Himalayan Nyingmapa Monastery → Mall Road snack/coffee → short walk towards Old Manali.
If you still have time, continue towards Hidimba Temple and enjoy the deodar forest there.
